Enchanted Living - Exploring July's Burst of Lilies in my Gardens

Birdhouse Garden
Birdhouse garden is giving an exceptional performance this summer.  Holding
a long list of different types, color, shapes of daylilies that I have been
collecting over the past thirty years.

Abundance In Rainfall Last Spring Reward Nature's Show In Wisconsin

Cement Horse pillars, and flower containers frame out the steps leading us down to the lower gardens.  I glance at the trees heavenly laden with growth causing shadows to confine most of the sunlight.  As I reach the bottom step my eyes
behold the most exciting birdhouse garden which holds hundreds of daylilies in abundant color!
This giant daylily is not only huge it also has the most gorgeous Golden color.
Daylily blossoms only last one day but as you can see on the picture they have
many more buds waiting to open the next day after their sister flower is spent.

This area of the Birdhouse garden has the blue delphiniums
and Baby's Breath mix with the daylilies
These lilies look like the shape of Trumpet lilies but are shorter in height.

Here the daylilys bask in the brilliant sun with the company
of the pink coneflower and the phlox.
This daylily is almost a lime color and has a faint white stripe on it's petals.
Daylilys rich in wine color with a vibrant yellow throat
accented by black pistils makes me stop in wonder
and delight, gazing more than a few minutes.
This beauty is a look alike of Lavender Stardust
Can be bought in Breck's Catalogue or
on line at Brecks.com

Strawberry Candy is the name of this exquisite daylily

I have never seen a summer like this.  Most July's are steamy hot and dry.  usually  have to water often and this season only watered when I transplanted a few flowers, wanted them to settle in.
July is close to the end.  I will hate to say farewell to this extravaganza of beauty in God's Creation.  Thirty years ago this area was nothing but a farm field when we purchased the land.  The woods and out back were there, but the six acres of where the gardens are was only growing corn.

The group of star lilies happen to be blown over and when taking my
daily walk my eyes enjoyed the combination of the same color yellow on both
awe inspiring delight a bouquet straight from God!

Daylilies are so easy to grow, adapting to most all types of soil,  their performance lasts all of July and some of August.  There are some daylilies that will last all season if dead headed, (take off all the spent blossoms) .

This one is special, not only a lovely combination of ruffled edges but the
color is so very pretty too.  I got it from my sister Pat who has the prettiest
garden in Waupun, Wisconsin.

Oriental Liliy

This lovely beauty has freckles and reminds me of the old fashioned orange ones my mom had in her garden but of course mankind has to always improve on things and has hybridize with exquisite new verities and this soft touch of pink.

This quickened my heart when I first saw it.  Pink does evoke feelings
of calm and peace, but with this combination it caught my breath
for a moment and I am still smiling as I look at it now!

The sun caught this rouseing colored daylily just perfect  to make it look as if someone forgot to turn off the light in the lovely dark gold throat.

This Lavishing Stargazer Oriental Lily cannot be duplicated by any other Daylily.

Double golden yellow Daylily is outstanding in the garden.

Daylilies can stand alone or in a group such as these, includes the Phlox in back, Pink Cone Flower amongst the yellow and peach daylilies.
I plant very close so it looks nearly wild in my gardens.  Can't bear to see any empty soil.  :)
My husband picked this prize daylily out at a nursery called Monchies over by Hartford City.  At this
particular nursery, you walk around  the rows and rows of spectacular perennials and find
the special one you want and dig it out.  So much fun!  They package it for the trip home.

You cannot get any happier than this group of lilys.

The I Believe metal art is something I requested my Dick to make me.  It holds a Finch feeder filled with thistle.  I can see it from my dinning room windows reminding me Who created all this beauty.
Daylilies on bottom of Picture. This area is in the upper level of my gardens close to the house.  It is shaded and very peaceful.  Our deck looks out at this area too and many birds are flying in to feed.  Birdbath back aways and birdhouses my daughter painted after her husband Gary made them up.

A cluster of these pink daylilies are up by the house gardens.
The deck's floor was redone.  Dick with the help of our Grandson Brett pulled up the rotten boards that were there since we moved in 30 years ago.  The deck leads to a patio of deck boards also and will also be done new.  I use to have many large pots scattered on the deck that were not up off the boards, causing the boards to rot.  The large flower container sits on a metal art stand that Dick made.  He is now in the process of making low wood stands on wheels that will let the wood dry in between watering.

Wood trolley that Dick made for the large Flower Pots on deck.  No longer will the deck
boards rot from moisture standing on them.  They will dry shortly after rain.
Rockgarden can be seen below through the spokes of the railing.

Now it is time to say so long

to all of you my friends.

It's been a long visit

Daylilies and other

lilies are abundant.  :)

Blessings and love from my way to yours

Let me know how you all are doing

Kate
